Mitchell Starc's Absence Haunts Delhi Capitals

The absence of Mitchell Starc proved detrimental for the Delhi Capitals as they faced a significant defeat against the Gujarat Titans, losing by 10 wickets. Playing at their home ground, Delhi struggled without the tall left-arm bowler, and it was evident as Gujarat's openers, B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, amassed an impressive 205 runs without losing a wicket, sealing the victory with six balls remaining.

This win propelled Gujarat to the top of the IPL standings with 18 points, securing their spot in the playoffs. Initially, the target of 200 runs seemed challenging, but Gill and Sudharsan quickly established a rapid scoring pace, accumulating 33 runs in the first two overs bowled by Axar Patel and T Natarajan. Delhi managed to slow down the scoring briefly with Dushmantha Chameera and Mustafizur Rahman, who allowed just one boundary in their three overs.

However, this was the only moment when Delhi appeared competitive, as both Gill and Sudharsan skillfully found boundaries to maintain a steady scoring rate.

While Sudharsan consistently hit boundaries, Gill focused on sixes, hitting his first boundary in the 13th over off Chameera to complete his half-century, having already struck four sixes by that point.

The run rate dipped below nine only during overs 6-10, where they managed to score 34 runs, reaching the halfway mark with 93 runs. With no Delhi bowlers making a significant impact, both Gill and Sudharsan accelerated their scoring, demoralizing the home side.

KL Rahul's Century Goes Unrewarded

In a contrasting performance, KL Rahul's change in the opening batting order proved beneficial for Delhi as he replaced Abhishek Porel and scored an impressive 112 runs, leading the team to a total of 199/3. Rahul's innings was crucial in setting a challenging target of 200 runs.

He began his innings cautiously but increased his scoring rate during the final over of the mandatory powerplay bowled by Kagiso Rabada. A pull shot for six was followed by a boundary over cover, and he capped off the over with a straight six over mid-off, signaling his intent. Porel, who came in after Faf du Plessis' dismissal, supported Rahul well, and together they forged a 90-run partnership for the second wicket, laying a solid foundation for the innings.
